At 1000, 27Oct 06, Fort Drum, New York (where it will be based), the 7th was again called to active duty. For the first time in it's history, the Battalion was not assigned to to the 5th Infantry Division, but is part of the 20th Engineer Brigade, XVIII Airborne Corps (however, when the Division was deactivated in 1921, Company A was assigned to, and in support of, the Infantry School at Fort Benning from Oct 21 to Oct 33). The 20th Engineer Brigade is based at Ft. Bragg, NC with units at Ft. Campbell, Ft. Knox, and now Ft. Drum. The XVIIIth Airborne Corps is also based at Bragg.

As a non-divisional unit, the structure of the BN is quite different from previous it's previous incarnations. The BN will not reach full strength for about a year and it may deployed with or without the subordinate Companies.
